Kristen Burk’s piece poses an interesting dilemma
Thank you Kristen for sending this image. The interesting dilemma is that the type of decoration and the backstamp on the base don’t seem to come from the same period. The impressed base marking is usually found around 1881-3 but the type of decoration is normally 1920s. Perhaps Peter Beckett, who is more knowledgable than... Read More
Leanne Bradbury’s Platter with the Forester & Hulme Backstamp
Thomas Forester had a few of these short lived partnerships during his early career 1886-7. Alison Tierney sent these images of a very elaborately decorated Forester planter
Thank you Alison for these images of your mother-in-law’s planter. I am guessing the date it was made was about 1913.

This took over three months... Read More
Wendy Pride from Canada sent me these images of this lovely handpainted vase.
I have no idea what the pattern is called as I haven´t seen another example of this design, although, as Wendy says, it is similar to the Tall Spring piece in the gallery. It is dated somewhere between 1925 and 1932.
A gentleman from Connecticut USA sent me these images of an Albert Dean piece.
This piece is interesting as it is inscribed by Albert Dean rather than tube lined in the mould as described by Ian Turner in an earlier post. I think it must be an early piece. It is really curious as the backstamp indicates pre 1893 and it doesn´t carry the Ltd. However we know that... Read More
